If you can read this, the bug is fixed for my username, at least. This is not universal
though: many can make new topics, just not all of us anymore.
Looks like it works now.
I believe I found the problem, don't use double quotes in posts, not until they fix the
code behind the submission form. It creates a record with the offending syntax error.
Without looking at source, I'm not going to conjecture further.
It's probably a good idea to remove the topics that don't work, however.
Over the past few days I've learned never to ever preview your post before sending it, especially when creating a new topic.
Chances are great that the topic will be created, but your message won't be there.
Bob
this has happend with me. I put in a bit of work with adding links and so on and it made it an error empty board post.
Is this still broken?
Don't know about you lot and how your screen reader(s) interpret the text on
the screen, but I am not liking the visual æsthetic of whatever changes have
been made to the boards.
The data box that has the poster's name, number of posts, date/time stamp
of said post and the blurb about the poster is just too crowded looking and
too left justified with the yellow background to make it look comfortable to
see and or read... I know that that last comment is more aesthetic than
anything, but for the partials who can see with some difficulty might actually
have some difficulty reading the data box on a magnified screen.
All the posts are in their own headings now. Some screen reader users might like this, but I'm not the biggest fan of it.
I noticed this, too, but it's still too early to tell whether I like it or not.
I've also noticed that the text box assigned to my account is only 74
characters wide, whereas people like Alicia have significantly more characters
per line.
I don't know if this is intentional or not but it makes the page formatting look
strange.
I can't speak for the visual changes, but I do like the separate headings for both
posts and topics.
I am not sure if i will like this but don't want to say either way right now
I deffently did not like the sudden change and kind of freaked out. I will post more about it later but with some of the comments it sounds like there might be some more changes comign soon.
I really do like the individual posts broke into headings, it makes the boards so much easier to read.
I don't find it a problem. I have a problem of adapting, so.
It works, so suits me.
exactly my issue, I have a problem adapting but I am thinking the changes are going to be fine because it doesn't seem to have made things worse off, for me any hows... I am a jaws user.
No, what I mean is I adapt to changes, so that is my problem. I really just figure out how to use it, or get buy with it. Smile.
If it works with a screen reader, I'll work it.
Westcoastcdngrl, think I may have fixed that for ya. How does it look now?
Much much better, thank you... smile
I, too, adapt easily to things, and I must say that I like the way the posts are organized, now. I find it's a lot easier to be able to skip through headings till you hear "first unread post."
I also think it works nicely.
I didn't like the new headings, at first, but it's not so bad. Most forums do this, actually. It's simple enough to just do a search for unread, or unread posts, if that's what you're looking for.
I'm getting used to it.
I do wish the "unread topics" was a different heading, like heading level one so it could be accessed easier.
Bob
Bob, FYI at least on my Mac, the topic numbers are heading level 2 and the
"Unreadposts" heading is a level 3 heading. I hope this helps. :)
I also just have to say how much I love this new setup. :)
I really really really like how the boards are under different headings, but I'm
not sure how I feel about the poss being under headings, as I navigate by
headings a lot with my mac.
Well, the different posts are at level 2, and, once you hit the first post if you hit 3, jaws says "no level 3 found in this section".
So, I guess I don't like it all that much.
Bob (the curmudgeon)
Try moving with the letter H? That is how you move from heading to heading using Jaws.
Shift H goes up just H goes down.
Yeah but, if "unread" is way down the page you have to hit "h" a bunch of ttimes.
Bob
Post 24 is correct, the heading for unread posts is a level 3, while the rest are level 2 headings.
So, instead of hitting h a bunch of times, you can just use the find command in Jaws, or whatever screen reader you're using, type in unread, and it will remember that each time you click on a new board topic. So you can just hit the find next command and get directly to the unread posts that way.
You'll have to redo this each time you restart your computer, or unload Jaws, but it should eliminate having to hit h until you find the unread posts.
I did an inspect on the page, looks like the unread heading is in an anchor element. My iPad doesn't do anchors, but some desktop readers can be made to do these. I think JAWS has a quick keys manager under insert f2 where you can assign that to a key if it isn't there.
Perhaps making it an Aria landmark might be easier for more readers to find it. Like Apple or NVDA.
Good call Leo.
Hitting an 'a' will take you straight to the "unread topics" link.
Now, I like it. Guess I'll have to go find something else to gripe about.
Thanks.
Bob

You could also do Placemarkers in Jaws or Window-eyes. Press 3 to jump to the UNread Posts heading level 3 in some screen readers as well. The Unread Posts anchor also remains. A landmark may not be a terrible idea either.
Reason for a landmark is for iOS and the Mac. They don't do anchors.
There is this though. The unread link is just above the 3rd heading down on the page.
On IOS and Mac OS the Item chooser has the potential to become your best
friend. :)
Just 2 finger triple tap the screen, or hit VO I on a keyboard, then type "Unread"
in the search box. Then double tap, or hit enter on the result. :)
I love the fact that with any operating system it is possible to do just about
anything more than one way. :)
I use JAWS, and I go down to the bottom of the page and then give the JAWS find command, type unread, and then the command to search backward. It takes me right to the unread post heading.
